dabl® 24-hour blood pressure measurement service for pharmacy wins award

07 Dec 2010:  dabl® Ltd has been announced as a winner at the Medical Technology Industry Excellence Awards in Galway. Receiving the award, L-R: Bill Rickard, Paula O'Sullivan, Alex Yarmoshko, John Kelly Beating off stiff competition, the award was received for developing and commercialising an online blood pressure diagnostic service which helps pharmacies to prevent stroke and heart disease.

Known as dabl® ABPM Pharmacy, the innovative service provides an automatic expert diagnostic report for a 24 hour blood pressure measurement recorded on a validated device.  The evidence based, computer generated interpretative report, allows pharmacies to offer a professional service to a level which was formerly the preserve of Specialists.

This accolade follows the publication of a scientific study which reported that dabl® ABPM Pharmacy is the most accurate and consistent way of interpreting ABPM data as the human error factor is removed.

High blood pressure is the main risk factor for stroke, heart attack, and other cardiovascular diseases.  It is now recognised that 24-hour blood pressure monitoring is far superior to the traditional method of a one-off snapshot (blood pressure) which has been shown to have the potential to misdiagnose up to 40% of cases.

dabl® ABPM Pharmacy addresses the growing international trend of Pharmacists expanding their role to provide additional healthcare services such as patient monitoring and risk assessment.  Patients who are identified at risk are referred to their GP for further treatment, while those with reduced risk are given helpful advice by the Pharmacist.

Commenting on the achievement, Bill Rickard, Managing Director of dabl® Ltd said that “We are honoured that our efforts to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease by making reliable, consistent and affordable screening available to Pharmacy have been recognised by industry experts.  This award is testament to the innovation and hard work of our fantastic team – and the loyalty of our Pharmacy customers both in Ireland and abroad.

We are grateful to the Irish Medical Devices Association, Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland for this recognition and we look forward to expanding our product to other markets during 2011.”
